Obeya Room
Visual project management

Overview

Visual management is a method that focuses on organisational objectives, by the deployment of different supports and visual elements that show the status of the projects. One of the Lean tools for visual management is the Obeya Room (war room, in Japanese), a space designed for project management that eases decision-making and communication. It contains visually engaging charts and graphs depicting information and it is managed by the project team in short and regular meetings. This way, problems are quickly detected and solve, one of the objectives of this method. The concept is based on the idea of dedicating space and time to team coordination and problem solving, eliminating all organisational barriers created over time. Obeya therefore facilitates communication, teamwork and continuous improvement. Short Interval Management (SIM), planning and KPI are other useful visual management tools.
